HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
We are excited to bring you more information and knowledge about the Halloween season and back stories of The Mystery Chest.

Origin of Halloween
The Celtic people have a festival called the Samhain, it marked the end of the harvest and start of winter. It was also a time the people believed that the dead would return back to Earth.
The Christian holidays, like All Saint's Day and All Soul's Day, were blended with the Celtics' Samhain and the name "All Hallows Eve," now called Halloween. When the European immigrants, especially the Irish, came to America, the holiday evolved and people began to celebrate in costumes, go Trick or Treating, and make Jack O' Lanterns.

The Beginning of Candy
Homemade treats were made and given as a way to ward off the spirits. Over the years homemade treats became candy. Participants of the holiday used to dress up in costumes and would perform so the neighbors would give them food and drinks. Then in the 1950s, the candy industry marketed to the customer and it was a success. Now almost all treats given are some form of commercialized candy or some other kind of treat.
Birth Of the Jack O' Lantern
The Irish originally carved turnips, but then changed to pumpkins when they came to America. Pumpkins were much more accessible and larger too. They carved faces into the pumpkins in an effort to scare away spirits. This tradition began due to a story of Stingy Jack, who was tricked by the devil, but was cursed to wander the earth with only a glowing ember. Now we use candles to represent that glowing effect.

Lady Peacock and the Peacock Group
Lady Peacock is the sister to Jose Hernandez. She married a man who had become wealthy as a real estate agent. He owned many properties. She enjoyed spending a lot of money on material items, as well as throwing large party gatherings. She also began the Peacock Group. The group is made up of other high society members that promote her large parties and other events.
Rosco
Rosco was found by the family when they moved into their home, the children were promised a dog when they moved to a large home with a front and backyard. After being in the home for a month, they all went to the local animal shelter. As they passed by the kennel, Rosco, at that time his name was Bandit, sat near the gate and longingly looked at the family. When Rhonda knelt down to pet his nose through the metal gate, he began to wag his tail. Instantly she wanted to take the mutt home with them. The rest of the family fell in love with him when they took him to the exercise yard; he was so playful, just like the young dog he was. They believe Rosco is a mix of Beagle/Jack Russell Terrier/Sheltie. He has been with the Hernandez family for about one year.
